Safety Over the Net – May 2013
The Cyber Awareness programme- “Safety Over the Net”, was held as scheduled on May 30, 2013 at HTC Towers, Guindy, Chennai. The programme was well started by Prime Point Srinivasan, Chairman, Prime Point Foundation, who shared an informative presentation with the audience and kept them live with a lecture full of information. He discussed the advantages, challenges and the safety aspects of social media and networking sites.
This session was followed by a session from Mr Balu, Former Addl. superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime, who introduced and explained the provisions under the law with real time anecdotes on cyber crime.
Mr Mohammed from ITMR presented a brief presentation with on the need for Cyber Security education and advanced forensic education underlining the need for trained manpower to meet the requirements of India.
Mr Gunasekaran, CFO of HTC shared his good experience on the needs of Cyber security as an essential imperative. The event wound up with a Note of thanks by Mr Ramesh Bashyam, Secretary of CySI.
ITMR Book Club Meeting
The book titled “IT for Management “ Oxford publication authored by Dr.Muthukumaran was reviewed by the faculty and students. The club routinely reviews the latest books and journals to inculcate the habit of reading and updating the latest in technology.

Dr.Sylendra Babu, I.P.S., ADGP-Tamilnadu Police, kick-started the preparatory sessions of the first batch ITMR Diploma classes on 22nd February 2013. Dr.Babu is also first student of the Diploma of the Cyber Investigation and Law.
Addressing the faculty and students of the ITMR, Dr.Babu enlightened the importance of awareness of Cyber Security and the urgent need for trained professionals in cyber investigations. He shared several of his experiences in solving criminal cases using cyber tools and techniques with the help of experts. He appreciated the institute for the initiative and encouraged young IT aspirants to join the course which are run by experts who have eons of experience in solving cyber related crimes.
Event Training the trainers held on 17th & 18th December 2012
One day workshop on CYBER INVESTIGATIONS AND LAWS
ITMR conducted a one day virtual workshop on Cyber Investigations and Laws on 17th December 2012 with a focus on training the trainers. The workshop deliberated on the various aspects of network protocols, file systems and storage, cyber forensics, cyber crime and laws, and security information and event management with log management. The discussions centered around the current state of cyber investigations and cyber security including the increased levels of log and security compliance mandates, and the emergence of new generation of threats. The participants were spread across regions including Dehradun, Delhi, Coimbatore, and Chennai. The workshop was well received.
One day workshop on ENTERPRISE SOLUTION ARCHITECTURE
ITMR conducted a one day virtual workshop on Enterprise Solution Architecture on 18th December 2012 with a focus on training the trainers. The workshop deliberated on the various aspects of enterprise architecture, service oriented architecture, application architecture, web services and security. The discussions centered around the current state of software architecture and the need for new generation architects to manage the expansion in the emerging areas of new generation databases, enterprise service bus, big data and the emergence of new standards. The participants were spread across regions including Dehradun, Delhi, and Chennai. The workshop was well received.
